AMELIA ISLAND, FL (#TALACC2014) -- The Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce held a 3 day conference to discuss upcoming business in the Big Bend. Here is a recap of some of the topics covered over the weekend.
First Commerce Credit Union made THE announcement that Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak will be speaking at their annual Power Forward Luncheon. The event will be November 5th and you can purchase tickets here.
There was also talk of the extending the Leon County penny sales tax. Currently, the tax is planned to expire in 2019. Local leaders are asking voters to approve the extension of the tax for another 20 years.
The Penny Tax has raised more than 800 million dollars after being approved by voters back in 2000. The money helps fund projects like Cascades Park and upgrades to Mahan and Franklin Boulevard.
Tallahassee Regional Airport spoke about upcoming changes as well. There are plans to update the airport's terminal. Chris Curry, airport director, also said there may be an addition of airlines, such as jet blue and spirit.
