Tallahassee Airport Upgrades Bag Screening

TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) -- There's a big upgrade happening at the Tallahassee International Airport and it involves your time and your checked bag.

In the past, if you wanted to check a bag, you took it to the airline ticketing agent for a weigh in and tag. After getting your bag back, you were responsible for taking it to get screened by TSA before it was sent off to the airplane.

Now, things are changing. Instead of a time consuming process to check a bag, it's a one-stop-shop. Your bag is weighed by the ticketing agent, it's sent on a series o conveyor belts to be scanned, and you see it again at your final destination.

"The airport has antiquated equipment, or has had antiquated equipment when it comes to TSA screening equipment," said Chris Curry, C. M., the Director of Aviation at Tallahassee International Airport. "This new equipment will make the airport more efficient. Hopefully it works faster than the older system so people can move through the airport very quickly."

This upgrade increases efficiency, allows for airport growth, and limits the amount of hands your bag passes through. In fact, TSA agents will only touch your bag is it is deemed as a threat and needs to be searched by hand.
