LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County ranks third for food insecurity out of the state's 67 counties, that's according to Second Harvest of the Big Bend.
When two supermarkets closed in Northwest Tallahassee, it left thousands of residents without a nearby source of healthy food.
Tadlock Roofing held a two-week food drive. Their goal was to collect 2,000 non-perishable food items.
"It's amazing how I can live here most of my life and not realize we have the food shortages that we have," said Dale Tadlock, President of Tadlock Roofing. "But when hearing about that, we just felt like it was our responsibility, not only as an individual but as a business owner to try to help meet a need we have here in our community."
They presented those items, along with a check for $2,000 to Amos P. Godby High School on Friday.
