BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (AP) — A southwest Georgia police chief says one of his officers acted appropriately when he shot a pit bull that charged and bit another officer as they were monitoring an eviction.
WALB-TV reports the dog shooting happened Wednesday at a home in Bainbridge, about 60 miles southwest of Albany. The home's owner called police to stand by while its occupant was evicted.
Several dogs were inside the home, and authorities say a pit bull charged an officer who opened the garage door and bit him. A second officer drew his gun and shot the dog.
Bainbridge Police Chief Eric Miller the dog ran away. It was found Thursday morning and euthanized.
The officer who was bitten has returned to duty. Miller says police have not determined whether to file charges.
