SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Suwanee County Emergency Management Services partnered with the Elk Lodge in the city of Live Oak to raise funds to support the families of the deputies killed in the line of duty in Gilchrist.
The Live Oak Fire Department, the Live Oak Police Department, and the Suwanee County Sheriff's Office all brought their crews and manned the serving line to prepare hundreds of lunch orders for the surrounding area.
Their goal was to raise $1,800.
"We just thought it was admirable that they were doing this. So we jumped in there and provided them with the cooking utensils and everything they needed to to make these meals," said Sheriff Sam St. John. "And then they went out and pre-sold probably around I want to say 350 or so tickets or so to the community out here and like I say the community, they've stepped up."
Together the organizations sold out of lunch plates and surpassed its goal.
They prepared more than 300 boxes of food and raised more than $4,000 in donations.
St. John says, the county offers its continued support to the families of the fallen officers.
