SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Deputies say every major roadway in Suwannee County is blocked by downed trees or power lines.

The Suwannee County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to be vigilant as Hurricane Irma continues to pass through the Big Bend area.

Deputies say the south end of Irma has still not passed through Suwannee County yet and say there is potential for high-intensity winds to come.

"Every major roadway within Suwannee County has at least one obstruction on it, to include trees and/or power lines," deputies wrote on Facebook. "Remember every power line should be treated as live until the electric company determines that it is not."

They are asking travelers to stay off of the roads unless it is an emergency.

SCSO says county road and electric company crews cannot begin clearing the roadways until the second half of Irma passes through.

They ask that you remain in a safe place and be patient.
