TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The suspicious package found inside a state government building Wednesday is being sent to the FBI.
Firefighters say the white powdery substance found inside isn't hazardous based on preliminary testing but they are still sending it to the federal agency to be tested in Jacksonville.
This suspicious package, which contained white powder, was found in a room on the lower level of the Collins Building in downtown Tallahassee. The fire department, with the hazardous materials response team, evacuated that floor while they begin investigating the Collins Building.
"This was an isolated incident which we are doing our proper tests and going through all of the steps we go through on these types of calls to rule out what the substance was," said Richard Jones, the deputy chief of the Tallahassee Fire Department.
At this time, the room which the package was found in remains closed, however, the floor is open for use.
