ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities are looking for a man suspected of killing a St. Johns County Sheriff's Office dog after the animal chased him into the woods.
Deputies were searching a wooded area Tuesday along Florida Highway 207 near St. Augustine for 26-year-old Brandon Allison after neighbors in the Twin Lakes subdivision reported a disturbance.
Allison was being tracked by sheriff's Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan and his K-9 Baron early in the morning when the dog sensed the suspect was close and took off.
Mulligan told the Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/1yKSvAZ ) he could hear noise from the woods and a man yelling.
When authorities got to the scene the dog was found floating dead in a swampy area nearby.
Mulligan says he believes Allison, who is wanted on a separate felony warrant, drowned the dog.
