MIAMI (AP) - One of two Pakistani-born brothers charged with plotting to detonate explosives in New York City is seeking release on bail.

A hearing was set Tuesday in Miami federal court for 30-year-old Sheheryar Alam Qazi, who has been in custody since his November arrest. His younger brother, 20-year-old Raees Alam Qazi, is also charged but is not seeking release on bail.

The men have pleaded not guilty to attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and conspiring to provide material support to terrorists. Evidence indicates that the younger Qazi was much more active than his brother in an alleged plot to set off bombs in New York, including researching bomb-making techniques on the Internet.

Prosecutors say the men sought to avenge deaths caused by U.S. drones in Afghanistan.
