CORTLAND, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a suspect in the beating death of a man in central New York last fall has been captured in Florida.
Authorities in Cortland tell local media that 33-year-old Ardell Holmes was arrested Dec. 23 by U.S. Marshals in Lake City in northern Florida.
Police say Holmes and another man were seeing leaving an area in Cortland where 29-year-old Jayquan Hines was found unconscious on a street on Oct. 7. Officials say Hines had suffered blunt force trauma to his head. He died at a Syracuse hospital a week later.
Holmes was charged Wednesday with criminal possession of a weapon and manslaughter. He's being held without bail in the Cortland County Jail. It couldn't immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.
The other man remains at large.
