Suspect in Florida Toddler's Death Turns Himself In

Posted

COCOA, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say the suspect in the death of a 15-month-old central Florida boy has turned himself in to police.

Cocoa Police spokeswoman Barbara Matthews says 20-year-old Nathaniel Aries Dotson was charged late Friday with felony first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated battery.

Matthews tells Florida Today (http://on.flatoday.com/1emKEBh ) that the charges were upgraded from aggravated child abuse after an autopsy determined that the child authorities have identified as "Baby Zamir" died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Paramedics found the child unconscious Tuesday in a Cocoa apartment. He died at a hospital.

Matthews said Dotson's attorney advised him not to speak with investigators.

Dotson was held without bail Saturday. Brevard County jail records did not identify his attorney.
