WINTER PARK, Florida (AP) - The suspect in a day care crash that killed a 4-year-old girl now faces new charges.
Prosecutors in Winter Park on Monday filed two additional felony charges against Robert Corchado. He's now charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death and with injuries.
Authorities say Corchado rear-ended a car that was preparing to turn into a KinderCare, propelling the vehicle into the building. Lily Quintus died and 14 others were injured. Corchado fled but turned himself in the next day.
Orlando television station WFTV reports it took months to add the new charges because of concerns about proving Corchado knew the other car hit the building. Authorities say he abandoned the vehicle, rented a car and went into hiding.
Corchado was initially charged with drug offenses.
