CHICAGO (AP) — A new survey reveals what some consider surprising results that suggest so-called millennials are more engaged in the world around them than previously assumed.
Young adults have had a reputation for being connected to one another and disconnected from the news.
The survey of Americans ages 18 to 34 finds that two-thirds say they consume news online regularly, often on a social networking site. Of those, 40 percent do so several times a day.
Overall, the survey found that the average young adult regularly uses three or more social media platforms, among them Twitter, YouTube and sometimes Tumblr and Reddit.
Experts say that kind of news consumption is also growing among older generations.
The poll was conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and the American Press Institute.
