WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTXL) The United States Supreme Court is rejecting an appeal by Florida Governor Rick Scott on the issue of employee drug testing.
The Supreme Court justices did not issue any comment in rejecting the appeal that would have allowed random drug testing on as many as 85,000 employees.
A lower court in Jacksonville is still weighing the issue. Governor Scott issued a statement in support of the measure, following the Supreme Court's rejection.
Governor Scott said, “State employees should have the right to work in a safe and drug free environment, just like in any other business. The merits of this case are still being deliberated in the U.S. Southern District Court, and we will continue to fight to make sure all state employees, who are paid by taxpayer funds, can work in a safe, drug free workplace.”
