Is Your Baby Monitor Safe From Hackers?

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Is your baby monitor safe? That's what we wanted to find out in this edition of Tech Smart.

John Sawicki, president of Forensic Data Corp, joined us on WTXL Sunrise to talk about some of the most common misconceptions and what parents should do with their baby monitors. Click the thumbnail to watch the interview.

Sawicki says the baby monitors most susceptible are ones that are re-purposed webcams instead of just buying an actual monitor. He also warns parents to change the administrator settings anytime you bring a new electronic into your home.

Some red flags parents can be on the lookout for include hearing a voice coming through the monitor and seeing the device move.

You can always monitor your IP address, turn off the baby monitor when it's not in use, and cover it up whenever possible.

Remember you can catch Tech Smart every Thursday morning at 6:30 only on WTXL Sunrise.
