LOWNDES COUNTY, GA. (WTXL) - Georgia State Patrol responds to a vehicle accident with injuries.
Patrolman Patrick Orr was dispatched to an accident with injuries Sunday afternoon around 4:00p.m. on I-75 southbound near mile marker 7 in Lowndes County.
A tractor trailer, driven by 72 year old Thomas Cantrell, of Lakeland, FL was traveling south on I-75 in the center lane when it collided with a truck towing a truck. A Toyota Tundra towing a Ford Ranger with the use of a car dolly driven by 28 year old Daniel Young was trying to pass Cantrell when the dolly began to sway back and forth and he lost control of his vehicle.
The tractor trailer struck the median guardrail and came to rest in the median facing south. The Toyota had 6 occupants in it with 3 injuries. One injured passenger, Dannie Phillips, 67 years old from Ft. Myers, FL who was sitting at front right passenger side of the Tacoma was life flighted to Archbald in Thomasville with head trauma. He is in critical condition. The rest were transported by ground to SGMC. The driver to the Toyota was charged with failure to maintain lane and too fast for conditions.
All lanes of I-75 southbound were closed approximately one hour. Two lanes were reopened leaving an additional lane closed for an additional two hours.
