LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Residents who live near Bannerman Road are fighting a plan to rezone land that would add development to surrounding neighborhoods.
The property covers more than 30 acres near the intersection of Bannerman and Bull Headley roads.
A conceptual plan obtained through the county includes multi-family housing, an assisted living facility and commercial space.
Residents say the development would add traffic, overcrowd the nearby schools and reduce the property value of their homes.
"Summerbrooke and the Bannerman community area is primarily a vastly residential area -- not heavily commercialized -- and we want to keep it that way," said resident Cathy Slaton, a member of the Summerbrooke Homeowners Association (HOA). "We feel that this effort to rezone that parcel of land is incongruent with the comp plan. It is not consistent with what the comp plan states as far as responsible growth and development.
The proposal goes before the Leon County commission Tuesday at a public hearing at 6 p.m.
