SARASOTA, Fla. -- There is hope for NFL players told there is no treatment for symptoms of repetitive head trauma.
Dr. George Rozelle of MindSpa Integrative Wellness Center in Sarasota and former NFL player Pat Carter gave a free, special talk on concussions to the community on Tuesday.
Carter spoke of how Neuro-feedback helped alleviate his symptoms resulting from multiple concussions and Dr. Rozelle explained how the high rate of NFL player suicides prompted the ongoing multi-site controlled study.
"The treatment is very non-invasive, and very effective," Said Dr. Rozelle, "It's neuro-feedback, it's a way of feeding back information to the brain using a very tiny pulsed electrical signal that gets the brain out of stuck patterns and allows the brain to reorganize itself and return to a prior level of functioning."
Athletes suffering after a concussion, explained Dr. Rozelle, find their way to Mindspa after they've exhausted other options that haven't worked.
"They've been told that you have this condition that's not treatable," Added Dr. Rozelle, "But, we're out to show that it is treatable and we have proof of that."
Dr. Rozelle's research includes other tools like BOD therapy a sound therapy device showing promise in treating those suffering PTSD.
Awareness and funding are whats needed most to help continue research.
