FLORIDA (WWSB) -- A study released Wednesday by EverDrive found Florida drivers rank 49th in the country in phone use while driving. Only Louisiana ranks lower.
The safest state in terms of phone usage while driving is Vermont.
The EverDrive Safe Driving Report for 2016-2017 found that southern states are generally the worst in phone usage while driving, and that female drivers are 10 percent more likely than males to use them.
Nearly half of all trips taken resulted in the use of a phone in the south.
However, the study also found that speeding was the most unsafe practice while driving. Florida falls in the middle of the pack in terms of speeding violations among drivers.
For overall safety on the roads, the sunshine state falls slightly below average. The safest states are Montana, Wyoming and Alaska, while the most dangerous states for driving are Rhode Island, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
