THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - 200 students in Thomas County walked out of class Wednesday morning to join in the National School Walkout.
The students left class at 10 a.m. for 17 minutes, one minute for each victim in the Parkland, Florida shooting.
Students at Thomas County Central High School say, they wanted to remember the victims but also protest gun violence within the schools nationwide.
They say they're happy to have administrators that supported them during this student led protest.
"Um a lot of people showed up. Like a lot more than I thought were going to because I thought that everybody was going to be scared, but everybody just came because people feel really strongly about it," one student said.
"I'm very glad that our school allowed us to do this because most schools probably wouldn't," another student said. "I think it's a great thing being that we've come and used our right to the first amendment to express how we feel about the situation."
