GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Faculty and staff at Cairo High School have been waiting patiently to use a newly renovated facility, and officials say it's because of the recently rainy weather.

The Grady County Vocational Center was originally built in 1974, and housed home ed classes, as well as metal and automotive labs.

The renovations of this building were started in may 2018, with the goal of it being open to students by the start of the spring 2019 semester.

Unfortunately, the wet weather from the last several months has delayed the floor installation for some of the classrooms.

"We had moisture tests done Friday and Monday. Once we can get the moisture at the right level, we're having epoxy flooring put in and so that moisture has to be at a certain level before they can put it on the concrete," said Kermit Gilliard, Superintendent of Grady County schools.

This renovation is still under budget, but it's not cheap over four million dollars were set aside for this project, with 1.5 million coming from the "E-Splost" fund, and another 1.8 million from the state.
