TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A 13-year-old local boy is making a difference in the community.
Alex Tanksley is a student at Montford Middle School. He's also the founder of a non-profit organization, French Fries and World Peace, which just received a $500 Be Inspired service grant on behalf of Youth Service America and the Walt Disney Company.
Tanksley's service project is called Close to Home, and serves to provide welcome bags to individuals and refugees who have been resettled in Tallahassee due to social unrest, war, natural disasters or other unforeseen circumstances.
He was inspired after seeing a story about a homeless family.
Tanksley is asking for hygiene items, blankets, and books for children to fill his care bags.
The Close to Home project is hosting a community party Jan. 6, and giving over 100 filled bags to the Tallahassee chapter of the International Rescue Committee.
