Student Brings Loaded Gun to Valdosta Elementary School

Posted

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - An 11-year-old boy has been arrested for bringing a loaded gun to S.L. Mason Elementary School.

Valdosta City Schools said that on Thursday, a teacher discovered that the boy had a loaded gun in his possession. Once school faculty found the gun, they said they immediately told the school resource officer, who took the gun.

The student was then removed from the school and a juvenile criminal complaint was filed against him by the Department of Juvenile Justice.

“My review of the incident reflects that the system worked in this case. A faculty member of school did their job, discovered the student had a firearm, and immediately turned the case over to law enforcement. This is the perfect example why our school system elected to have a Valdosta Police Officer in every school”, stated Chief Brian Childress.
