MADISON CO., Fla. (WTXL) - A man is arrested after deputies say he robbed a convenience store to pay his probation fee.
At approximately 1:31a.m. on September 10, deputies with the Madison County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) were called to the Fast Track Store, located on SW US 221 at the I-10 interchange, for an armed robbery.
According to the store clerk, a white man came in the store with a knife and demanded money from the register. The clerk handed over the money and the suspect ran off. According to MCSO, the entire robbery was captured on store surveillance video.
Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart says an investigator reviewed the video and recognized the armed robber to be Cody Dewayne Lee by distinctive body mannerisms from previous dealings with Lee.
Deputies went to Lee's house on SW Harby Avenue in Greenville and say they found him arguing with family members. Sheriff Stewart says Lee was detained and gave deputies a full recorded confession and led the investigator to the corner of a neighbor's house where he had hidden the stolen money. Lee was arrested and taken to the Madison County Jail, charged with robbery with a deadly weapon and petit theft second offense. According to Sheriff Stewart, Lee admitted that he committed the robbery and stole the money to pay his current probation fee.
