SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A Live Oak man has been arrested after leading deputies on a chase through Suwannee County on a stolen motorcycle.
Richard Alan Morla, 36, was arrested on Thursday and on burglary, grand theft, and fleeing/resisting arrest charges. Additionally, he has been charged for driving with a suspended license and violation of probation.
The Suwannee County Sheriff's Office says they tried to conduct a traffic stop on a stolen motorcycle Thursday afternoon, but the driver, Morla, didn't stop and lead them on a chase through the county.
As he approached the intersection of US 90 West and 153rd Road, deputies were able to block him off, forcing Morla to drive into the backyard of a nearby home before attempting to flee through the woods.
Morla soon abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to run away on foot. However, deputies soon caught up to Morla, who violently resisted arrest and refused to obey commands.
After a brief struggle, deputies secured Morla. He was transported by Suwannee County Fire Rescue to Shands Live Oak Regional Medical Center for evaluation and was later transferred to the Suwannee County Jail after being medically cleared.
Sheriff Sam St. John would like to commend all of the Deputies involved in this pursuit for doing so safely and for recovering the stolen vehicle.
