TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A 63-year-old Steinhatchee woman is dead after she fell off the back of a truck.
The Florida Highway Patrol says it happened when William Clark, 78, of Steinhatchee was driving northbound on S.R. 51 near Kings Creek Circle Thursday afternoon.
Marian Cooke was riding in the back of the 1998 Ford F-150 truck, trying to hold down a metal bench. However, the bench began to slide, throwing she and the bench onto the road.
Troopers say Clark noticed immediately, so he stopped and turned around to help Cooke before calling 911.
Cooke was transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville where she was later pronounced deceased.
FHP notes it was not as notified of the incident until 10:11 p.m. that night. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
