TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A Florida house committee has passed a bill aimed at banning texting while driving.

The measure, House Bill 13, unanimously passed a House Civil Justice Subcommittee on Wednesday.

HB 13, sponsored by by Rep. Doug Holder (R. Sarasota), would create the "Florida Ban on Texting While Driving Law." It would prevent drivers from sending and receiving text messages, e-mails, and instant messages from hand-held wireless devices while operating a vehicle.

The bill has one more committee stop before it can be considered by the full House of Representatives.
