ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities say 17 people died in traffic crashes on Georgia roads during the Christmas holiday period.
The Georgia State Patrol reported the numbers early Wednesday. The State Patrol based the count on a Christmas holiday period that began at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at midnight Tuesday.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/V2OiQP) that six of the fatalities were in metro Atlanta. In northwest Georgia, one wreck investigated by the State Patrol's Calhoun post left three people dead.
The State Patrol investigated 685 crashes with 300 injuries during the 102-hour Christmas holiday period.
