TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--Community members are mourning the loss of Leon County Sheriff's Deputy Christopher Smith.
Deputy Smith was killed in an ambush attack on Saturday. Deputy Colin Wulfekuhl was injured.
The suspect was shot and killed by Tallahassee Police.
A candlelight vigil is set for 7 p.m. in Smith's honor on Monday at Dick Howser Stadium.
Community leaders are responding to the shooting.
“I extend my condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of LCSO Deputy Chris Smith," said State Rep. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda. "I was traveling out of state when I received word of this terrible tragedy. Distance does not lessen the sadness and compassion I feel for our law enforcement community and all our courageous first responders. My thoughts and prayers go out to these brave men and women. I am eternally grateful to those who are willing to put their lives on the line each and every day to protect and defend us. Thank you and God bless you, your families, and your work. I will pray for answers and solutions so that we can work together to prevent such violence and tragedy in the future.”
