VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Department of Corrections officials confirm that an inmate died last night at the Valdosta State Prison.

Tuesday about noon, the state released notification that the inmate was Anthony Hann, Jr.

The Department of Corrections reported:

At approximately 9:35 pm on Monday, August 14, inmate Anthony Hann was found unresponsive in his cell. Medical personnel and Officers responded and inmate Hann was taken to medical.

Local EMS was notified and arrived at approximately 9:57 pm and assisted.

Inmate Hann was pronounced dead by local EMS responders at approximately 10:01pm.

The cause of death is undetermined pending investigation and autopsy results. Inmate Hann was 29.

Hann is the fourth person to die in custody at Valdosta State Prison in 2017.

In June, Dominique Bohannon Hurt, 33, died at the facility. So far, the Department of Corrections has not released a cause of his death.

Two Valdosta State Prison inmates, Richard Strickland and Cody Vestal, died in February after a mattress in their cell caught fire.
