ALBANY, Ga. (WTXL) -In South Georgia, State Farm Insurance company is using drones to find and assess the damage from Hurricane Michael.

State Farm is the only insurance company licensed by the F.A.A. to fly drones in South Georgia for damage assessments.

State Farm actually has a team that uses the drones to check homes or businesses for hurricane damage making the claims quicker for customers.

The company said it's been valuable especially in disaster areas that are still off-limits to homeowners.

Catastrophe Claim Specialist, Garth Weaver, said "It just allows us to extend the case of unbelievable technology the drone provide us to do larger assessments with one single flight."

The Insurance Catastrophe Village at Home Depot in Albany was open Saturday to help storm victims file their insurance claims and answer questions.
