TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- StarMetro, Tallahassee's bus service, will begin installing 28 new benches and eight new shelters at bus stops throughout the city.

“Tallahassee weather is often unpredictable,” said City Commissioner Nancy Miller, lead commissioner on the City’s Long Range Planning target issue committee. “By installing more benches and shelters, we can ensure that our StarMetro customers are safe, comfortable and protected from the elements while they wait for the bus”

Staff anticipates that all benches and shelters will be installed within the next three months. The installation of these new benches and shelters is a priority identified by the City Commission.

“With the addition of these new customer amenities, StarMetro will be responsible for maintaining nearly 225 benches and shelters,” said Ivan Maldonado, interim director of StarMetro. “This is a great accomplishment as our amenity to stop ratio is much higher than those of our sister agencies, like the Regional Transit System (RTS) in Gainesville.”
