TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A successful weekend for America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend as they continue to count the donations coming in from the 'Stamp Out Hunger' food drive.
Over the weekend, the food bank teamed up with the U.S. Post Office to collect food from outside of homes in the big bend.
The postal carriers picked up the food and delivered it to Second Harvest.
So far they have collected almost 63,000 pounds of food and they only expect that number to grow.
"We will go through the food, sort it out, inspect it to make sure everything is good as far as expiration dates and packaging, then we distribute it out our 138 plus agencies in the big bend," explains Davis Cox, Second Harvest Director of Operations.
Second Harvest says they received a lot of canned goods along with cereal and ready to eat meals.
This is one of the food bank's largest food collections of the year.
There are more than 100,000 people facing hunger in the big bend region.
