TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Six local veterans are graduating from an intensive 'four phase' program.

It's called the "Leon County Veterans Treatment Court".

It is a specialized treatment program helping Veteran defendants in the criminal justice system, who suffer from service-connected behavioral health issues, such as post tramautic stress disorder.

Program officials say these combat-related mental health issues can show a direct link to substance abuse, and involvement in the criminal justice system.

The program helps to save on costs for the community taxpayers, and aims to treat individuals, without compromising the safety of the public.
