ALBANY, GA (WALB) - While most of the state and country are saying goodbye to flu season, health officials in Southwest Georgia on Monday said we have a few more weeks to go.
Officials with the Southwest Health District say we typically have a longer flu season, ending at the start of June.
Last week, people were still being hospitalized for the flu.
In the state, there were 145 flu deaths this year.
Thankfully Southwest Georgia didn't have any, but epidemiologist Jacqueline Jenkins said there were more flu hospitalizations this year than in the past two years.
"For us, we didn't have the deaths, but we did have more outbreaks in our long-term care facilities and our schools then we did the previous year," said Jenkins.
Jenkins said hospitals did a great job with making sure the flu didn't spread.
She said she was happy to see a lot of signage and information about the flu in hospitals and other public facilities this year.
