TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--The Southside Arts Complex in Tallahassee is in danger closing.
The art center is now struggling to pay rent.
Times are tough for the non-profit organization that could be forced to shut its doors by the end of next month.
Executive Director Marcus Rhodes says they owe $50,000 for rent. He says before moving into the building in 2012, they had to renovate the property because the building had been vacant for several years. He says NAI Talcor Commercial Real Estate Inc., the property manager, abated the rent.
Now Rhodes says the deadline is Friday to pay the thousands of dollars due.
On that day, the center is hosting a donor reception Friday from 7-9 p.m. in hopes of raising those funds. He says they will have groups including the Boys Choir of Tallahassee perform. Tallahassee City Commissioner Andrew Gillum and City Manager Anita Favors-Thompson are scheduled to speak.
