EASTPOINT, Fla. (WTXL) -- Eastpoint locals say 79 families lost their homes due to the Limerock Wildfire. Many of them are still relying on help from neighbors.
That's why Tallahassee groups are stepping up.
"You always hear the saying 'it's better to give than receive' and it's a true statement," said Butch Topicz, Southern Cruisers Riding Club 478 member.
Even though the Limerock Wildfire was 80 miles away from Leon County, Topicz, along with members of Southern Cruisers Riding Club 478, wanted to support their neighbors to the south.
"Our communities here in the Big Bend area all are surrounded by forest," said Topicz. "It could just as easily of been us in Wakulla, Tallahassee, Leon County."
That's why the group teamed up with Red Hills Powersports.
They gathered supplies for the 79 people who are still impacted by the fire. Southern Cruisers made their way to First Baptist Church of Eastpoint to show support from the Capital City.
The Southern Cruisers Riding Club already delivered a truck full of clothes to help the fire victims. Since the need has shifted, on Saturday the group rode to Eastpoint with food they've been collecting the past two weeks.
"We really appreciate it and the people who have been affected appreciate it as well," said Pastor Douglas Boucher.
First Baptist Church of Eastpoint has a feeding program every Saturday. Pastor Douglas Boucher says, since the fire three weeks ago, they've been giving out anything they can daily.
"The people in the area that burned come to our feeding program. So, we were very close to those people and immediately tried to discern what we could do to help," said Pastor Boucher.
And the truck full of food the Southern Cruisers brought will do just that.
To help, you can drop off non-perishable food items to Red Hills Powersports in Tallahassee or First Baptist Church of Eastpoint.
