VALDOSTA, GA. (WTXL) - The Valdosta Lowndes Regional Crime Lab is now the only locally accredited crime lab in the entire state of Georgia. Monday evening, the lab and it's staff were honored for their achievements.
The South Georgia crime lab is now internationally accredited through the American Society of Crime. This accreditation is the highest standard a crime lab can earn.
In February, the lab was evaluated based on over 100 different standards. The lab contains multiple departments including crime scene, latent prints, drug analysis, and firearms.
The crime lab works with various law enforcement agencies across the area including the Valdosta Police Department, Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, the Moody Air Force Base.
There are currently 9 other crime labs in the state of Georgia that have this accreditation, but all of them are either state or federal crime labs.
