BOCA RATON, Fla. (WTXL) - A South Florida doctor is behind bars after police say he poured cocaine into a woman’s drink while they were out at a restaurant together.

According to court documents, Boca Raton police responded to Ouzo Bay Restaurant regarding a suspicious incident on Sept. 10.

Police say a customer at the restaurant had seen another customer pour a powder substance into a woman’s drink while she was away in the restroom. When officers arrived, they identified the suspect as 50-year-old Mircea Morariu.

The victim told police she had known Morariu through a mutual friend. She said they were meeting to discuss Morariu’s recent engagement.

Documents say the victim came alone to the restaurant and hadn’t consumed any drugs or alcohol prior to arriving. Police say they both ordered food and drinks while at the bar.

After being served a second drink, the victim went to use the restroom and, according to witnesses, that’s when Mororiu poured the substance in her drink.

When the victim returned from the restroom, she stated that Morariu was pushing her drink towards her and had moved her water glass out the way. Once she continued drinking, he left the bar and went to the restroom.

While Morariu was in the restroom, officers approached the victim and told her what had occurred.

Fire rescue responded to the restaurant to assess the victim and advised her to go to the hospital.

On Oct.23, the Palm Beach County Forensics Sciences Division released a toxicology report that showed the victim had consumed a substance that contained multiple drugs including cocaine and ethanol.

Morariu was arrested on charges of poison food/water on Monday.

Court documents say Morariu is a doctor at Delray Medical Center.
