SOPCHOPPY, Fla. (WTXL) - There's less than a month to go now for the city of Sopchoppy's annual 4th of July celebration.

The 44th annual event brings large crowds to the small Wakulla County city each summer, and organizers expect another big turnout this year.

The celebration kicks off on the morning of July 4 with a parade in downtown Sopchoppy on Rose Street. Along with festivities at the city park and a night capped off with fireworks, organizers say the event is one of the main draws for tourists every summer.

City councilman Becton Roddenberry said the fun-filled day takes months of preparation -- with tourists expected to boost the local economy.

"We have so many different little local businesses and consignments here in Sopchoppy. So, when the Fourth of July comes, it's a really big event for local vendors," Roddenberry said. "They come to the city park, and they set up their local booths. Lots of arts and crafts, good food, and it's a really good time, very family-oriented. It's a great place to come for Fourth of July."
