SAN FRANCISCO (CNN) -- Social media isn't just for pet videos, status updates and selfies anymore; apparently more Americans are using it to get their information about politics.
Going into Election Day 2014, a new survey shows Facebook and Twitter play a bigger role in how Americans get their political information.
The Pew Research Center says twice as many Americans used their phones to track information about this year's election than they did during the last midterms four years ago.
Of registered voters surveyed, 16-percent said they followed politicians on social media. Just six-percent said the same, four years ago.
