JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Authorities are investigating after a 6-year-old boy was accidentally shot by a family member.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office received a call Friday evening around 8:30 p.m. that 6-year-old juvenile male was shot inside a residence of Townhouse Drive.

He was airlifted and transported to Sacred Heart Hospital.

During the investigation, they discovered that a family member was responsible for the shooting.

Deputies believe it may have been an accident, however, Jaquaruis White, who was found in the home with a gun, was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

There's no official confirmation of whether White shot the child, only that he was in possession of a firearm and was subsequently arrested for it.

The child remains in critical as of Monday afternoon.
