MIDWAY, FL (WTXL) -- Midway Police Officers are gearing up for their shopping outing with local children as part of the “Shop with a Cop” event.
Parents must fill out an application and return it before December 15, 2015. Children from ages 5 to 15 years of age are eligible to participate in the program provided they meet certain economic criteria.
The young shoppers also must not be receiving holiday assistance from any other program. Applications are available from the Midway Police Department website at www.mymidwayfl.com/police.
“This program allows for the police department to help local children enjoy the holiday season ultimately creating stronger families. This program is about our children, our leaders of tomorrow, said Chief Jerome Turner Jr., founder of the program. When the program first began in 2013, funding covered the participation of only 6 City of Midway children. This year, we plan to serve as many as possible thanks to recent donations from our community partners and the City of Midway Police Department.
Midway Interim City Manager Auburn Ford is hoping this year’s event will draw even more local support. “For a $150 donation, a City of Midway child can be funded for this event,” said City Manager Ford. This is a very special project initiated by Chief Turner, which has my full support.

Applications are available from the Midway Police Department website at www.mymidwayfl.com/police or at City of Midway City Hall located at 50 M.L. King Boulevard, Midway, Florida 32343.
