TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- Cold weather has been reported across the country over the past two days, and our area has been no exception, with the temperature dropping to a record breaking 22 degrees this morning.

Residents in Tallahassee are able to beat the cold weather at The Shelter, which provides a roof for the homeless in the city when temperatures drop.

Tonight will be the third night this week that The Shelter is open for those seeking refuge from the cold.

It is also open during the week 24 hours a day, where they provide food, medical services, and a safe place to sleep for those in need.

The Executive Director of The Shelter, Jacob Reiter, said a lot of people have been utilizing the shelter during this cold outbreak, and for good reason.

"It's a matter of life and death, when the temperature drops below 35 degrees, the Department of Health has determined that people can die out there so its so important that people come in and get warm and we're able to do that through our community partnerships and so we really appreciate that."
