MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A shark bit a woman on the hand as she swam in the Atlantic Ocean off Melbourne Beach.
The woman told paramedics on Sunday afternoon that the shark was two to three feet long.
Brevard County Fire Rescue District Chief Josh Shepherd told Florida Today (http://on.flatoday.com/1ytgWBD) the shark "swatted" at the woman with its fin and then bit her right hand.
The woman who is in her early 20s was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne for treatment.
Shepherd described the woman's wound as "a pretty significant bite." Her condition was not life-threatening.
The woman's name was not released.
