LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WTXL) -- Several people associated with Moody Air Force Base have been arrested in connection with child exploitation, said the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department.
Since April, investigators from the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office have been assisting federal agents with the United States Air Force in Operation Broken Heart.
"Children or young people are often tricked into believing they're in a loving, consensual relationship by an adult with ulterior motives," said the department in a news release. During Operation Broken Heart, agents posted ads on several websites pretending to be a underage teenager in need of a friend.
Deputies said, "In each instance, the conversation the suspect attempted to develop a relationship by making overtures for a meeting, often requesting photographs and the promise of 'having fun.' Some blatantly mentioned sexual activity as a possibility of the meeting. Each time a meeting place and time was established where the person believed they were going to meet a fourteen year old child."
Though this operation was targeted at Moody Air Force Base, several civilians were also arrested.
