TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- The life of a well-known Leon High School teacher will be remembered next week.
Rod Durham died Sunday in Fort Lauderdale at the age of 52 from heart failure.
He spent nearly 20 years at Leon High, working in the arts, but he also was an inspiration to several in the community through his journey on the ABC program "Extreme Weight Loss."
While on the show, Durham went through a grueling three-month boot camp to get in shape.
He even climbed to the top of the Empire State Building. By the end of the program, he lost 188 pounds.
Durham visited WTXL several times, crediting the community for helping him through that journey.
Family visitation and viewing will take place Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Strong & Jones Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Leon High School.
Contributions can be made to the "Rod Durham Memorial Scholarship Fund" payable to Leon High School Foundation. Mail checks to P.O. Box 15963, Tallahassee, FL 32317.
