TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County School Board is set to meet Tuesday night.

Several interesting topics are up for discussion including scholarships, construction projects and redifining the term 'service animal.'

According to the agenda, the Leon County School Board will be approving funding for the Florida's Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Program.

This is interesting because, as you may remember last year, a Florida auditor realized the district had paid $184,057 in Florida's Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Program awards to 27 employees who did not meet the state law requirements. Those teachers were left having to pay the money back.

Now they're taking a look at how they're going to monitor the awards this year.

Also, Superintendent Rocky Hannah is is recommending the approval to advertise amendments to a policy involving animals on school district property.

The passing of house bill 71 implemented revisions to Florida Statute clarifying the definition of a service animal. It also defines rules for safety for the public, so if animal poses a threat, it can be removed from the property. Hannah wants to adopt those changes for the district.

Once approval is granted, next up will be a public hearing and adoption meeting set for March 27.
