CHATHAM CO. Ga.-- A Chatham County Sergeant has been fired following the assault of an inmate that was captured on camera.
Sergeant Charlesetta Hawkins was taken into custody today and terminated from her position after an incident last week.
Officials say inmate Jonathan Mahone broke the sprinkler head in his cell causing his and the two cells next to his to flood.
Sergeant Hawkins disciplined Mahone by and placing him in a restraint chair,
where he later spit on her. According to authorities, that's when she sprayed pepper spray in his face.
Hawkins has now been charged with cruelty to an inmate, while Mahone is facing a charge of destruction of justice.
