TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — As as the White House launches a series of forums on aging, seniors and their advocates in Florida are pressing for action on long-term care, retirement security and elder abuse.
The session Thursday in Tampa was the first of five nationwide that will mold the topics addressed at a White House Conference on Aging.
Speakers focused on four key areas: ensuring that seniors have the financial means to sustain retirement; promoting healthy aging; providing long-term services and supports; and protecting older Americans from financial exploitation, abuse and neglect.
This year's events come as 78 million baby boomers move into old age in a profound societal shift with a host of economic implications.
But decades of stagnancy on issues facing older Americans left some participants skeptical about the prospects for change.
